Robotics – Arduino And Pi Projects – 3D Moedling – Flash Animation – Apps – IT – Plus More
Hello everyone, this is my Omnibot 2000 conversion / upgrade project, using the EZ-B4 robot brain unit from EZ-Robot.com, much like the on in DJ Sures video, which I have embed below. DJ Sures is the CEO and founder of EZ-Robot.com. I hope to put a little more tech in the head of my Omnibot 2000 upgrade project, in the from of some 3D cameras or thermal imaging cameras and a palm top projector to be mounted on the head, possibly a 3D printed cover or mount for the projector, and a TFT flat screen display connected to a Raspberry Pi mounted on the chest. Below are some pictures of the robot as advertised on E-Bay from ware I purchased it, as these robots where built by Tomy in the early 1980’s and are now collectors items, E-Bay or GumTree are the only places you are likely to find them anymore. The pictures after that are of me disassembling the robot so that I could clean it and strip it down in perpetration for the much anticipated arrival of my EZ-Robot Developers Kit, every day excitedly waiting for the postman, I felt a bit like Bart Simpson “Where’s my spy camera !” 🙂
The first three images above, from left to right, are the original E-Bay pictures posted by the seller, the other two images are from the internet to show you how those sections should have looked. At the time I did not take any photos off the corroded battery compartments on the robot and remote controller.
By way of illustration, the above images are of other peoples Omnibot 2000 upgrade projects, to present you with some ideas of how I hope my own Omnibot 2000 project may look at the end of this upgrade process, and perhaps inspire you to make a robot project of your own. If you would like more information about the EZ-B4, easy to use plug and play robot brain, you can follow this link to EZ-Robot.com for the latest developments, or visit my List Of Best / Latest hardware And Gadgets for more information about free software for robots and other projects.
Below are two videos posted on YouTube.
Video 1) Posted by Checkyoursix77, in which he shows an original mint condition Omnibot 2000, as they were in the 1980’s. Feel free to check out his channel, he has some more Omnibot videos as well as videos and playlist on other subjects.
Video 2) DJ Sures the CEO and founder of EZ-Robot.com, show casing his Omnibot 2000 conversion with All features including speech, WIFI control and face recognition, etc. His robot is excellent and this short video is well worth a watch !

———— Features And Capabilities ————
Features And Capabilities The Robot Had Before The Upgrade : Controls : The robot was radio controlled or could run a pre programmed sequence from a cassette tape, which could be activated by a push button on the front panel or by a time delay using the robots on board controlled computer clock. Movement : The robot could move back wards or forwards and left or right and had two speeds. One arm had gears so it could be moved up or down and forward or back ward and the resist could rotate and fingers could open or close to hold objects. Other : The eyes could light up or flash with a short sound. A talk through feature was included via a mic in the radio controller.
Features And Capabilities The Robot Will Have After The Upgrade :
Controls : The robot can be controlled by issuing voice commands or controlled via an app on a smart phone or by any number off compatible WI-FI and blue tooth
devices, fore example a Wii Remote or X-Box controller. Their is also a degree of autonomy and decision making with the EZ-B4 unit and ROS software.
Movement : The robot will be able to move backwards or forwards and left or right. The head will be able to move lift and right, with an added feature allowing the head
to move up and down. One arm has gears, which are being retained, so the arm can be moved up or down and forwards or backwards and the resist will
still be able to rotate and the fingers will continue to open or close to hold objects. Moreover the other arm may become a utility arm / hand, with some
kind of probe or tool attachment, for example a Geiger counter, thermometer or a soldering iron etc.
Other : Other ability's include, being able to talk combined with voice recognition and learning capabilities, as well as faces recognition and object tracking and
color tracking. In Addition to the above capabilities, I also intend to include 2x Raspberry Pi's with cameras attached to them, to be used for making 3D videos
and a third Raspberry Pi to be used as a mini on board desk top computer, which will be linked to a palm top project, that I intend to install on the top
of the robots head, and chest mounted TFT flat screen monitor for a display to be connected to one of the Raspberry Pi's. A laser key board will be projected
from the robots upper body on to the ground, for use with the third Raspberry PI mini desktop computer.
