It SHOULD be your choice when your intentions include editing of existing DWG files. Indeed, you can create new files in the native DWG format, at the same time. Another factor you would love about the tool is the availability of plenty of learning resources, an impressive level of support etc. Plus, you can find a large number of features in each section; let that be editing, productivity or exporting. For instance, you will be able to save the project to a wide range of formats, including JPG, PNG, SVG, PDF etc. Despite these capabilities, draftSight Free CAD Software has a simpler interface, which is good for newbies. DraftSight is available for Mac, Windows, Fedora and Ubuntu.
FreeCAD
FreeCAD is a parametric 3D modeler made primarily to design real-life objects of any size. Parametric modeling allows you to easily modify your design by going back into your model history and changing its parameters. FreeCAD is open-source and highly customizable, scriptable and extensible. FreeCAD is multiplatfom (Windows, Mac
and Linux), and reads and writes many open file formats such as STEP, IGES, STL, SVG, DXF, OBJ, IFC, DAE and many others. Who is FreeCAD for? A couple of user cases: The home user/hobbyist. Got yourself a project you want to build, have built, or 3D printed? Model it in FreeCAD. No previous CAD experience required. Our community
will help you get the hang of it quickly. The experienced CAD user. If you use commercial CAD or BIM modeling software at work, you will find similar tools and workflow among the many workbenches of FreeCAD. The programmer. Almost all of FreeCAD’s functionality is accessible to Python. You can easily extend FreeCAD’s
functionality, automatize it with scripts, build your own modules or even embed FreeCAD in your own application. The educator. Teach your students a free software with no worry about license purchase. They can install the same version at home and continue using it after leaving school.
FreeCAD-PCB
FreeCAD-PCB allows you to import PCB boards to FreeCAD. Scope of mod, support for many different layers, possible to choose colours, transparency and names for each layer, mod allows you to import IGES models with colours, possible to show holes/vias independent.
OpenSCAD
OpenSCAD is a software for creating solid 3D CAD models. It is free software and available for Linux/UNIX, Windows and Mac OS X. Unlike most free software for creating 3D models (such as Blender) it does not focus on the artistic aspects of 3D modelling but instead on the CAD aspects. Thus it might be the application you are looking for when you are planning to create 3D models of machine parts but pretty sure is not what you are looking for when you are more interested in creating computer-animated movies. OpenSCAD is not an interactive modeller. Instead it is something like a 3D-compiler that reads in a script file that describes the object and renders the 3D model from this script file. This gives you (the designer) full control over the modelling process and enables you to easily change any step in the modelling process or make designs that are defined by configurable parameters. OpenSCAD provides two main modelling techniques: First there is constructive solid geometry (aka CSG) and second there is extrusion of 2D outlines. As data exchange format format for this 2D outlines Autocad DXF files are used. In addition to 2D
paths for extrusion it is also possible to read design parameters from DXF files. Besides DXF files OpenSCAD can read and create 3D models in the STL and OFF file formats.
Tinkercad
Tinkercad is a simple, online 3D design and 3D printing app for everyone. Tinkercad is used by designers, hobbyists, teachers, and kids, to make toys, prototypes, home decor, Minecraft models, jewelry, the list is truly endless! The easy way top start is : 1) Place Shapes are basic building blocks of Tinkercad. A shape can add or remove material. Import your own, or work with existing shapes. 2) Adjust Move, rotate and adjust shapes freely in space. Use tools like the ruler to input exact dimensions. 3) Combine Group together a set of shapes to create models as detailed as you want.

Mesh Lab
MeshLab is an open source, portable, and extensible system for the processing and editing of unstructured 3D triangular meshes. The system is aimed to help the processing of the typical not-so-small unstructured models arising in 3D scanning, providing a set of tools for editing, cleaning, healing, inspecting, rendering and
converting this kind of meshes. The system is heavily based on the VCG library developed at the Visual Computing Lab of ISTI – CNR, for all the core mesh processing tasks and it is available for Windows, MacOSX, and Linux. . The MeshLab system started in late 2005 as a part of the FGT course of the Computer Science department of
University of Pisa and most of the code (~15k lines) of the first versions was written by a handful of willing students. The following years FGT students have continued to work to this project implementing more and more features. The proud MeshLab developers are listed here. This project is actively supported by the 3D- CoForm project. Other projects that have previously supported MeshLab are listed here.
